Wow.. This is great indeed….
This is the way the youth in India can rebuild our country, one brick at a time... without waiting for mahatmas and miracles to save us! If these exemplary leaders were the ones calling the shots today, Kerala would have been a lot different. More power to them.
After witnessing the pathetic state of affairs of our alma mater, Government Engineering College, Trichur, when we all were there to celebrate the 25 years of graduation in last August, we have formed a Charitable Trust (GECT Development Trust) (www.gectdt.com) with a goal to bring back the past glory of our campus. Lot of people asked us lot of funny questions
(http://gectdt.com/faq/) , the most interesting one being, “Well, our college is a government college. Therefore, isn’t it the responsibility of the government to build and maintain proper infrastructure? Why are you guys into maintaining the facilities?” When we told these nay sayers that “we the people are the government in a democracy”, it sounded kind of new to many of our fellow engineers. Pathetic 67 years of Indian democracy!! We have just started the work only, there is lot more to go.
We are trying to get Therambil Ramakrishnan, local MLA, involved. Leading this remotely sitting in US is so tough, still some great students have come forward to provide the leadership. So far we have removed the overgrown weeds and started pressure washing, priming and painting the walls. Students used to destroy public property, now at least at GECT they are building it with their own hands. After painting the front side walls of the campus, next project is to fix both the men’s and women’s rest rooms! FB and internet is very helpful, especially when we are leading this remotely. If any of you as alumni, Trichurian, Keralite or general philanthropist is interested to become part of this initiatives, you are most welcome.
We are determined to make this a trend. Well to do private citizens and corporations coming to the aid of the struggling government establishments is the need of the hour. This is the organic way of empowering the psyche of the people by awakening them to the fact that, in a democracy people are indeed the government and the era of total dependence on and waiting for the benevolence of rulers and governments is gone for good. Thank you for bringing out such a very positive news from Kerala. They are the silver lines on the dark clouds hanging above Kerala's political sky. Congrats! Such news gives a great relief , comfort and satisfaction despite the horrible and disheartening negative news constantly put up on the air. I sincerely appreciate and salute KN Balagopal MP for writing such a great news.
I remember meeting this young and dynamic MP, a role model for the political leaders, at the India Press Club conference in NJ. We do have great expectations of him. The Calicut MLA Pradeepkumar deserves special Padma award for demonstrating to the public and to his fellow MLAs how the funds available could be effectively and timely made use of.
The Pravasi friends who lined up behind the PRISM program of MLA Pradeepkumar to make the project a grant success are role models for every Pravasi who really love their motherland. If MPs and MLAs of Kerala follow the path of KN Balagopal MP and Pradeepkumar MLA, thousands of Pravasis would be coming forward to adopt the old govt schools where they studied and transform them just like the Nadakav Govt school of Calicut.
