The opposition parties, including the Left and BJP, have severely criticized the terms of reference that have been announced by the CM in the solar probe.

Terming the terms of reference as a sham, members of the opposition said that they were vague and would prolong the probe and make it inconclusive. Further, they said that the probe terms were designed to make a mockery of investigations and would ultimately cheat and mislead the people of the state, exonerating the CM in the process.

The fact that the terms of reference have bypassed a demand for a probe on the CM's office has been specifically singled out for criticism by the opposition.
