The Supreme Court, on Friday, rejected Kerala government's plea to stay the Green Tribunal's verdict in the Vizhinjam port case.

The case was considered by a three member green bench of the Supreme Court.

The Principal Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had decided to judicially review the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport.

The state government and the Vizhinjam port company have maintained that it is the Chennai Green Tribunal that should consider the appeals related to the Vizhinjam port.

It was also pointed out in the appeal that the principal bench of the Green Tribunal has no authority to examine the amendments of the law related to the protection of coastal areas.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had recently said that official talks would be held in Delhi on Friday to finalise conditions for central assistance to the proposed project.

Chandy, Minister for Ports K. Babu and senior officials had held talks with union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Delhi last week about the central government's clearance for the viability gap funding for the Rs 5,000-crore expected first phase cost of the project.
