The Karnataka High Court has denied bail for PDP Chairman Abdul Nassar Madani, who had sought bail for meeting his medical needs.

Madani had approached the court for bail to get himself treated using his own money. The court said that it did not have the right to issue the bail and said that Madani could approach the Supreme Court if he wanted the bail. This is the fifth time that the High Court is denying bail for Madani.

Earlier, public prosecutor Dorairaju had submitted a report in the court which acknowledged that Madani had more than ten ailments. However, the prosecution said that the diseases, which were common to anyone above 50, did not need special medical attention. The prosecution also said that all the facilities for treating Madani had been arranged in the jail and that Madani had himself rejected the treatment that was being offered to him. Even though authorities were willing to offer all treatment facilities for Madani in a phased manner, he was insisting on treatment in multi-speciality hospitals, where all his ailments could be attended to at one go.

Madani's lawyer said that even though the PDP leader had visited many of the hospitals as listed by the prosecution, he had contacted new diseases which needed special care.
