Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM will not instruct the SFI to abandon such strikes.Party will discourage protests that stop classes, but the party This was the stand adopted by the CPM’s state secretariat, which ended yesterday. The party tried to solve the ideological differences on this matter by taking up a paper on the SFI itself because inconsistent statements by leaders have caused more confusion. After placing it for the consideration of the state committee, which will meet on July 26-27, the CPM might make its policy public. The decision came during a discussion on the timely changes needed in SFI’s activities. Since CPM central committee member E.P. Jayarajan adopted a tough stand that the SFI should abandon protests that stop classes, there has been a debate in the party and the SFI on this matter. Though the party rejects Jayarajan’s stand that there should be no protests that stop classes, it does not completely ignore the idea that he has put forward. The CPM sees the prevailing situation as one that is not suitable for the announcement that there should be no education strikes. At the same time, such protests will be curtailed as much as possible. In emergency situations, that mode of protest may have to be adopted. The youth cannot be restricted just like that.
