The State Revenue department has proposed a draft to restore the land acquisition act to its original state, passed in the year 1964. The proposal states that there will be an increase in the allocation of land to immigrants in the Idukki district. Certain clauses regarding the transfer of ownership of land have also been removed.

In 1964, the law stated that the the owners could possess up to 4 acres of land and would have the right to transfer the ownership as per their convenience. In the year 2005 and 2009, certain clause were amended. Thereby, restricted the quantum of land allotted to the owners to one acre.. The owners, also, could transfer the ownership of land only after a period of 25 years. The new draft proposal recommends the restoration of original clauses of the Act of 1964

The draft prepared by the State Revenue Department is yet to receive State Law Department's nod and the Chief Minister's consent. The needful would be done at the earliest.
