ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്ക് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ കോണ്‍സുലേറ്റിലെ ഡപ്യൂട്ടി കോണ്‍സല്‍ ജനറല്‍ ഡോ. ദേവയാനി ഖൊബ്രഗാഡെയെ അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്ത ഇന്ത്യന്‍ അമേരിക്കക്കാരനായ പ്രീത് സിംഗ് ഭരാര അമേരിക്കന്‍ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ബരാക് ഒബാമയ്ക്ക് വളരെ പ്രിയങ്കരനാണ്. ലോകത്തെ സ്വാധീശക്തിയുള്ള 100 പേരില്‍ ഒരാളായി ടൈം മാഗസിന്‍ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്ത വ്യക്തി കൂടിയാണ് പ്രീത്. . മാഗസിന്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിനു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന വിശേഷണം വാള്‍സ്ട്രീറ്റ് നഗരത്തെ പിടിച്ചുകുലുക്കിയവന്‍ എന്നാണ്. വിസ തട്ടിപ്പിന്റെയും വീട്ടുവേലക്കാരിയെ ചൂഷണം ചെയ്തതിന്റെയും പേരില്‍ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ നയതന്ത്ര പ്രതിനിധി ദേവയാനിയെ അറസ്റ്റു ചെയ്തതിന്റെ പേരില്‍ ഭരാരയുടെ പേര് ഒരിക്കല്‍ കൂടി മാധ്യമങ്ങളില്‍ നിറയുകയാണ്.
പഞ്ചാബിലെ ഫിറോസ്പൂരില്‍ 1968ലാണ് ഭരാര ജിച്ചത്. ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റേത് സിക്കുകാരനായ പിതാവും ഹിന്ദുവായ മാതാവുമാണ്. ഇന്ത്യക്കാരാണെങ്കിലും ഭരാര വളര്‍ന്നത് ന്യൂജേഴ്സിയിലാണ്. ഹാര്‍വാര്‍ഡ് സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയില്‍ നിന്നാണ് ഭരാര ബിരുദം കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയത്. തുടര്‍ന്ന് കൊളമ്പിയ സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയില്‍ നിന്നും നിയമപഠന. ആ സമയത്ത് കൊളമ്പിയ നിയമ നിരൂപണഗ്രൂപ്പിലെ ഒരംഗമായിരുന്നു ഇദ്ദേഹം. അതിനു ശേഷം അമേരിക്കന്‍ സെനറ്റ് കമ്മിറ്റിയില്‍ ഉന്നതസ്ഥാനവും അലങ്കരിച്ചു ഭരാര. ഈ സമയത്തെ ഭരാരയുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം വളരെ ശ്ളാഘനീയമായിരുന്നു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് 5 വര്‍ഷം യു എസിന്റെ അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് അറ്റോര്‍ണിയായി മാന്‍ഹാട്ടനില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. 2009 ല്‍ ഒബാമ പ്രസിഡന്റ് കസേരയിലെത്തിയപ്പോള്‍ ഭരാരക്കും പ്രൊമോഷന്‍ കിട്ടി. അറ്റോര്‍ണിയായിട്ടായിരുന്നു സ്ഥാനക്കയറ്റം. അപ്പോഴും ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്കിന്റെ കിഴക്കന്‍ ജില്ലയിലായിരുന്നു നിയമനം. 2009 മുതല്‍ 2011 വരെയുള്ള കാലയളവില്‍ ഭരാരയുടെ ഓഫീസ് കോടീശ്വരനായ രാജരത്ത്നതിതിനെരെയുള്ളതുള്‍പ്പടെ അഴിമതിക്കെതിരായ പല അ്ന്വേഷണങ്ങളും പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. രജത് ഗുപ്ത, അനില്‍ കുമാര്‍ തുടങ്ങി അറുപതോളം പ്രമുഖര്‍ ഭരാരയുടെ അന്വേഷണത്തില്‍ കുടുങ്ങി.
കുറ്റവാളികള്‍ ആരെന്നു നോക്കാതെ ക്രിമിനല്‍ കുറ്റങ്ങള്‍ക്കെതിരെ എല്ലാ തരത്തിലുമുള്ള അന്വേഷണങ്ങളുമായി ഭരാരയുടെ ഓഫീസ് 24 മണിക്കൂറും പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചു. അമേരിക്കക്കാരെ ഭീകരവാദികളില്‍ നിന്നും രക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനു വേണ്ട നടപടിയാണ് തന്റെ ഓഫീസ് ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ നിര്‍വഹിച്ചതെന്ന് ഭരാര പറയുന്നു. ടൈം സ്ക്വയറില്‍ ബോം ബ് വെച്ച ഫൈസല്‍ ഷസാദിനെ വേട്ടയാടി പിടിച്ചതും ഭരാരയാണു .ബാങ്ക് ഓഫ് അമേരിക്കയെയും വെറുതെ വിട്ടില്ല. 1.2 ബില്ല്യന്റെ കേസാണു മോര്‍ ട്ട് ഗേജ് ഫ്രോഡിന്റെ പേരില്‍ ഫയല്‍ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. 2013 ഏപ്രില്‍ 2നു ന്യൂയോര്‍ക്ക് സെനറ്ററായ മാല്‍ക്കം എ സ്മിത്തിതിനേതിരെ അഴിമതിക്കേസില്‍ അന്വേഷണം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചയാളാണ് ഭരാര. അമേരിക്കന്‍ പൌരനായ ഭരാര വിവാഹിതനാണ്. മൂന്നു കുട്ടികളുമുണ്ട്.
ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സഹോദരന്‍ ഡയപ്പേഴ്സ് ഡോട്ട് കോമിന്റെ ഉടമയാണ് . 2005ല്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ സ്ഥാപനം വളരെ ചുരുങ്ങിയ കാലം കൊണ്ടാണ് പ്രശസ്തി നേടിയത്. കമ്പനി നൂറ്റിഅറുപതു മില്ല്യന്‍ ഡോളര്‍ വാര്‍ഷിക വരുമാനം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത് വരെ എത്തി ഭരരെ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ കഴിവുകള്‍. ബ്ളൂംബര്‍ഗ് മാര്‍ക്കറ്റ് മാഗസിന്റെ 2012 ലെ സ്വാധീ ശക്തിയുള്ള 50 പേരില്‍ ഒരാളായിരുന്നു ഭരാര. അതു പോലെ തന്നെ വാനിറ്റി ഫെയറിന്റെ 2012ലെയും 2013 ലെയും ലിസ്റ്റില്‍ ഭരാര ഉള്‍പ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു. അടുത്ത കാലത്ത് ഒരു ഇന്ത്യക്കാരന്‍ ഇത്രത്തോളം പ്രശസ്തിയിലേക്കുയരുന്നത് ഇതാദ്യമായാണ്. എന്തായാലും ഇന്ന് ആഗോള തലത്തില്‍ ഒരു താരം തന്നെയാണ് പ്രീതീന്ദര്‍ സിംഗ് എന്ന പ്രീത് ഭരാര. ഇന്ത്യന്‍ വിദേശകാര്യ മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന്‍റെ ഭാഗത്തുനിന്ന് ഇതിനു മുന്‍പും നിയമ ലംഘനം ഉണ്ടായിട്ടുണ്ട്.അപ്പോഴൊക്കെ അമേരിക്ക മുന്നറിയിപ്പു നല്‍കിയിട്ടും ഉണ്ട്.അന്നൊന്നും വിദേശകാര്യ വകുപ്പ് ഇതൊന്നും ചെവികൊണ്ടില്ല.നിര്‍ഭാഗ്യവശാല്‍ ബിഗ് ബ്രദറിന്റെ ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ നീക്കത്തില്‍ ബലിയാടായത് നമ്മുടെ സ്മോള്‍ സിസ്റ്റര്‍ ആയിപ്പോയി.

Let the trial happen at a court of law. If this incident ends up being an embarrassment to USA by india's retaliation, then many IT professionals and engineering students will be at the receiver end as USA will increase visa rejections in H1 , L1 and F1 category and so the related dependent visas.
The middle class that is used to new riches and more than one maid servant is vociferous to deplore poor treatment to one of them. The corrupt and sick politicians are jumping over one another to please the middle class. he is getting 600$ plus accomodation in US which is free ($1000 if you stay alone) + $600 food and Misc (like heat/gas/electricity/internet/cable) + healthcare ) total comes to about .. 562 + 1000 + 600 + 200(healthcare) = $2000 isn't a good amout of salary... average US salary is $1200 for maids
he Indian legal system is known as a shining beacon of compassion and kindness. You can't even be a young woman and ride the transportation system in India without getting a cavity search by sick men. Her treatment was part of a normal system of bringing anyone into a jail.

The maid wanted to come to the United States and possibly with the intention of finding a way to stay. I have no sympathy for the consular lady nor the maid. When the maid was presented with the other contract, why did she not at that point object and complain to the US Consulate in India? Why did she sign the contract
what bothers me is the way the diplomat was treated. I just read that some 49 odd families of Russian mission were found indulging in similar practices in the same city and none of them were arrested in public nor strip-searched. so much for the "all are equal before the law". There are many professors in US universities who split fellowships obviously paying less than their local counterparts to get more students especially from Asia.
As far as possible follow the rules especially by CONSULAR AND EMBASSY STAFF,but don't accept lying down insults by us. Police dept, GOVTS, etc. imprisonment and search in this case is utterly meaningless. Demand huge defamation and apology by sec of states KERRY.
