Kunnukuzhi Mani, who had procured the invitation letter of  the movie "Vigathakumaran",  has said that the letter was fake.

As written in many articles by Chelangad, the exact date of Vigathakumaran's release was November 7, 1928. But, Kamal, in his biopic chose the wrong information, October 23,1930," said Mani.

Mani, who had been the editor of the magazine 'Kalapremi', collected the letter from Daniel's daughter Lalitha Henry on May 27, 2001.

"The letter was given to Janet by Kavadiyar Das after the death of J C Daniel. But, that was a photocopy only," Mani said.

Kunnukuzhi interviewed Vincent Singh, brother of Janet on June 1, 2001, in which he had said that the movie released on November 7, 1928, in Thiruvananthapuram. Adv. Malloor Govindapillai inaugurated the function.

Kunnukuzhi Mani lists out a few more points to confirm the argument:

1. Nagavally R S Kurup, who was nine-years-old  then, has written that he saw Vigathakumaran in 1928 in a theatre in Alappuzha. Chelangad has also written the same. When we check all  these, we can conclude that the release was in 1928. Famous film critic and director Vijayakrishnan who had done a research on this pointed out that the letter was fake.

2. J C Daniel got the Public Mirror award in 1929 for producing Vigathakumaran. There is no way he would have got an award in 1929 if the film was released in 1930.

3. In the features written by Edamaruk and Manarcadu Mathew after meeting J C Daniel,  it is written that Vigathakumaran was released in 1928.

It became a controversy when Kamal used October 23, 1930, as the releasing date of Vigathakumaran in the biopic Celluloid.
