The government has made the assessment that its response to the Salim Raj-involved land scam was inadequate.

Analysts believe that a CBI probe should have been initiated by the government itself, which would have prevented censure from the High Court. The government is also of the opinion that the legal department had not advised the government in this matter correctly.

The office of the Chief Minister said that the non response of the government was a strategic miscalculation. The High Court, which was very critical about the selection of personal staff in the CM's office, had asked the CBI to probe the land scam after it suggested that the issue had to be probed by an independent agency.
