Thiruvananthapuram: CPI-M today said the resignation of Oommen Chandy has become 'inevitable' as more proofs were being revealed about the alleged links between his office and the main accused in the solar scam. With the arrest of Tenny Joppan, former personal aide of Chandy in connection with the solar scam, the involvement of the Chief Minister's office in the crime had come to light, CPI-M state unit Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters here. 'The continunance of Chandy as Chief Minister will affect the natural progress of the ongoing investigation. The investigating team is now not able to honestly carry out their work,' he said two days after Joppan was arrested. Like in any case, Joppan, Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha Nair, the accused in the case, would have to be brought to the Chief Minister's Office to take evidence as a complainant had submitted that they had clinched a deal for a solar panel unit with him at the CM's office by taking Rs 40 lakh. The Chief Minister should quit and make way for an impartial enquiry, he said, adding that the Opposition Left Democratic Front would continue to press for a judicial probe into the issue. On the demand for resignation of JD-S MLA Jose Thettayil, facing charges of sexual misconduct, he said the media was creating a smokescreen on the issue. There was no precedence of MLAs quitting over such charges which were yet to be proved, Vijayan said.
