KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala on Monday slammed the Home Ministry over the 'casual handling' of the accused in the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T P Chandrasekharan murder case.

“The recent developments should be seen with utmost seriousness. The Home Ministry could have handled the case in a bit more careful way,” said Ramesh Chennithala. “It is the responsibility of the government to make sure that the killers of the RMP leader is brought to justice.”

'Delay in Chakkitapara probe not justifiable'
The KPCC president also asked the Congress-led UDF government to order a probe into alleged irregularities in granting licence by the previous LDF government to a private firm to mine iron ore from an area forming part of Western ghats and demarcated as ecologically sensitive in the Kasturirangan report.

“The delay in ordering a probe even after the issue came to light two weeks ago cannot be justified and government should order a probe,” Ramesh Chennithala told reporters.

He said government should view the matter very seriously.

The proposed mining site at Chakkitapara has been demarcated as ecologically sensitive area in the Kasturirangan report on Western Ghats.

The clearance was given in 2009. The issue came into the limelight recently when a team of officials from the company reached the site to conduct a survey prior to mining.
