In a setback to the government Chief Whip P C George, the Privileges and Ethics Committee of the Assembly has recommended censuring him for his derogatory remarks against senior politician and JSS leader K R Gouri.

The Committee, headed by former KPCC President K Muraleedharan, submitted its report to Speaker G Karthikeyan today after getting evidence on a complaint in this regard, sources said.

However, opposition members in the committee gave a dissent note demanding that George, a nominee of KC(M), be suspended from the Assembly for his remarks.

The complaint against George was filed by CPI(M) politburo member and former minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

The committee, which came up with the recommendations after detailed investigations, suggested that politicians need to adhere to basic norms of decorum and dignity.

George told the committee that his remarks made during a conversation with a private channel had been misquoted by the media.

Recently, he has been in the news for openly criticising functioning of the UDF government, which has embrassed the ruling Front.
