CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday came down heavily on the UDF and said that the government is showing no commitment towards people. He was speaking while inaugurating CPM's indefinite fast at the state level against rise in prices of essential commodities in Kochi.

People are reeling under pressure due to the price rise. The price of cooking gas was hiked to facilitate companies like Reliance to reap exponential gains. In the present scenario it seems to be the rule by the corporates for the corporates, Pinarayi said.

The CPM is organising the strike in ten centres in each of the 140 constituencies. CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the hunger strike in Thiruvananthapuram.

The strike is being organized in a different style this time by dividing it into different categories such as Kudumbasree strike, Land agitation, participatory pension scheme strike, solar strike, secretariat siege, Cliff House siege, etc. The organizers of the strike claim that it is the for the first time in the history of Kerala that strikes are being organized as per a federal system.

Party sources have also said that arrangements have been made to carry fasting members to hospitals if needed and deploy new members to fasting venues.
