On March 15, 2014, LegalEra magazine held its third annual awards "in recognition of legal finesse, innovation and accomplishments" at the Hotel Taj Lands End in Mumbai, India. At this event Kelley Drye partner and India Practice chair Talat Ansari was presented with a prestigious "Lifetime Achievement Award." According to the LegalEra Awards website, "the Indian Legal Awards set out to recognize the achievement of those law firms, teams and individuals for their impeccable efforts surviving the challenges of new business environment and serving with professional social responsibility." The winners were determined by LegalEra's independent panel of senior partners and other senior business figures.

 Mr. Ansari graduated from the Faculty of Law of Delhi University in 1975 and joined the firm of J. B. Dadachanji & Co. ("JBD") where he became the youngest partner of the firm in 1979. In April 1987 Mr. Ansari was offered partnership at Kelley Drye and moved to New York. Today, Mr. Ansari represents a number of Indian corporate houses and banks in commercial transactions and litigation. He also represents Indian and U.S. companies in international arbitrations where the Indian law is the governing law of arbitration.
 

Talat Ansari has spent 15 years as a Board Member and then Legal Counsel to America's leading arts council devoted to promoting the cultural of India, The Indo American Arts Counsel (www.iaac.us).

 
Talat Ansari is a partner in the firm’s New York office and chair of the India practice group. Mr. Ansari focuses his practice on corporate and commercial transactions, infrastructure projects, and international litigation and arbitration. Mr. Ansari has 38 years of experience representing India-based industrial, servicing and trading companies. He also advises a large base of U.S. industrial and financial clients on Indian law. Mr. Ansari’s  practice includes general corporate, finance and commercial issues, mergers and acquisitions, and trade regulation matters.

 He also represents clients in international litigation and arbitration involving Indian laws, regulations, policies and practices, including general corporate laws, banking, direct and indirect taxes, arbitration, foreign exchange regulations and foreign direct investment. Specifically, Mr. Ansari’s Indian law experience includes negotiating and structuring joint ventures, technology transfer and shareholder agreements; corporate restructuring; tax issues; the international bid process; financing and development of energy, telecommunications and other infrastructure projects; and litigation and arbitration.
